5 Skin Tips for Fall

Fall is wonderful!! Cool air, the colors, warming fires, and comfort food.

However, that cool air can be damaging to skin. Cracked lips, itchy skin, and that overall dry feeling are sometimes uncomfortable components of cooler weather. I have some suggestions for maintaining that glowing supple skin we all long for year round!

Just adding moisturizer to dry dehydrated skin soothes the skin, but it doesn't heal it. Notice that the dry feeling comes back? The goal should be to keep the moisture inside the skin.

A couple of suggestions:
1. Avoid scolding hot water when cleansing the skin.
The hot water minimizes moisture in the skin. Lukewarm temperature is healthier.

2. Moisturize after washing your hands and bathing.
It takes extra time to do this, but applying moisturizer to slightly damp skin locks the water inside creating a moisture barrier. It also helps the moisturizer to penetrate deeper because your pores are open.

3.Exfoliate
Moisturizer is much more effective on freshly exfoliated skin. Removing a dead skin layer insures better absorption from your hydrating products. Don't over exfoliate -the hot water will dry you out even more. Scrubbing down a few times a week, allowing time for skin to regrow, will be enough (depending on skin type).

4.Skip the harsh soaps
Use a cleanser with a creamy consistency and moisturizing ingredients. I have a few in mind if you need examples ;)

5. Drink lots of water.
Being hydrated from the inside out always helps the skin maintain moisture longer.

Remember that lotions don't often absorb as well as moisturizers, so pay attention to what you're using as well.

Hope this helps. My skin type is dry, so I personally live by these suggestions.
Have a Healthy Day!!

Consistancy with Skincare

It's extremely important to be consistent with your skin care routine. Your skin will reflect how consistent you are and will "fight" you when you're not. Remember that skin is our largest organ and it needs the vitamins and minerals on a consistent basis just like the rest of our body. So, yes eat your fruits and veggies but that only reflects 10% of our skin's appearance. A quality skin care routine results in about 90% of our skin's health.

It is recommended to clean your skin twice a day, morning and night. But, do you understand why????

It's important to wash our face at night because we need to wash off the day. Free radicals in the air, make up, smoke, dirt, and excess oil is sitting on your skin and it will affect it if it's not washed off. It's also important to clean your face at night because our body heals itself when we are sleeping. If your skin is dirty it can not "fix" itself or heal itself properly.

There are several reason's to wash your face in the morning too. When we are sleeping we are laying our faces on things that might not be the cleanest. Pillows are covered with anything from drool, runny noses, eye crud, dirt, oils from our hair, free radicals and dust that land on our pillows and bed sheets. Most people don't go to bed after taking a shower either. So, unless you change your sheets everyday, then we are sleeping on things that can affect our skin. Wake up and wash it off! You also should have a clean face before putting makeup on.

Also, remember to be consistent with what your cleaning your face with! Changing up your routine to have healthier skin is good. However, once you find a quality system then you need to stick with it for at least 3-4 weeks to determine if it's the right one! Then, once you've decided it's working well with your skin, stick with it and don't change anything for awhile. Skin care systems have different formulas, ingredients, ph balances, ect. Your skin will adjust during the first 4 week period, but will begin to show rapid improvement after that (if it's a good skin care system that is). You also need one that's meant for your skin type. If anyone has any questions about skin type or wants to know what yours is then email or facebook me. I'm happy to be of service.

Have a healthy day!

Chemical Peel???!!!!

The main idea of a chemical peel is to take off several layers of skin to reveal younger, healthier, smoother, skin. It is advertised to help with acne and acne scars as well. Let me give you the real info...

A chemical peel is done with actual chemicals. It's extremely abrasive, which is why it's done in a clinical setting. It needs a neutralizer to be put on to "turn off" the chemicals and to keep them from burning your face off. The problem with this is that the neutralizer can be put on to soon (not getting all the skin you wanted off) or to late, which often results in burns and major damage. I've heard some gory details to say the least.

No matter when the neutralizer is put on your still going to have to go straight home and stay there for awhile. Skin actually sloths off for at least a day and the new skin exposed is more susceptible to infection.

Chemical peels are also extremely expensive. Usually about $100 a piece. Often the dermatologist wants you to come in for about 3 painful treatments.

I found an awesome product invented and made by Artistry that is an amazing alternative to a chemical peel. It's called Artistry Intensive Skincare Renewing Peel.

I'm so excited to share this with you! It's not a chemical peel, but an enzyme peel. It NATURALLY resurfaces skin without the harsh chemicals. The formula uses a self-adjusting mushroom enzyme that adapts to the skin's pH and knows precisely when to turn itself off.

It works in 8 minutes and the directions that come with the peel are wonderful.  Over time, fine lines and age spots begin to fade, pores are minimized and firmness increases.

There's no irritation and no burning! Also, your skin doesn't continue to sloth off. It's not even painful!

Another amazing aspect of this product is that it gives you several applications (at least 8) and it's only 100 bucks. So, about $13 for something you would pay $100 for at the dermatologist office. It's also so gentle that you can treat your skin every 3 days or so. I decided to use this product before I shared it with you and I fell in love!! I've always wanted to try a chemical peel, especially while struggling with acne in college, but I'm so glad I found this product first.

Oh, IT'S ALSO A MISS AMERICA FAVORITE!!!!

If you have any questions feel free to email or message me.
Have a healthy day!

When Do Beauty Products Expire?

A few years ago and especially when I was a teenager, I would collect different beauty products. I'd try one, then decide to try another. I would never throw anything away so the collection kept adding up. The thought would keep running across my mind that "I might have a need for this later", so back on the shelf it would go. Now I stick with the Artistry line, but old products have a way of sticking around so I thought I'd give some advice on what you should keep and what really needs to be thrown away. This is great advice for any skin care and cosmetic line.

Products don't last forever, especially if they are the healthier products that have live cultures in them (like the natural plant and fruit extracts in Artistry products). In fact, the longer a product lasts on the shelves, the more potential for bacteria growth. This can lead to infections or skin irritations on your eyes or face if the product is used past it's shelf life.

The following are life spans of different products.
Find out when to discard your makeup and skin care items.

*Powder, Shadows, Blush: 2-3 years

*Foundation, Moisturizers, Serums: 1 year

*Mascara, Eyeliner, Liquid or Gel Liner: 3-6 months

*Lipstick, Gloss, Lip Pencil: 2-3 years

*Makeup Brushes: I recommend cleaning weekly with a gentle soap and air drying

To keep your makeup fresh and in good condition:

*Store in a dark cool place (not in a car)
*Wash your hands before application
*Secure tops and lids on tight
*Avoid sharing with others
*Always dispose of if you have an eye infection
*If your cosmetics have a funny smell, change in color or texture, or just look different all together, get rid of them. Using clean fresh cosmetics is your best bet and you’ll get the most out of your products!

I hope this helped with your cabinet space and with the life of your products.
Have a healthy day!

Blessings,
Jennifer

What Breakouts Could be Telling you...

Hey ladies and gents. This is an awesome article about breakouts and what could be causing them that a fellow skin analyst wrote. She's actually really more of a skin expert :) My rare breakouts happen on my chin. After reading this article I made a personal connection. I've taken a genetics test were the results told me I shouldn't have much meat at all. Only 15% of my diet should be protein. In fact, my body would really respond to a vegetarian diet very well (I don't see that happening). Remember, 90% of your skin's health is external. That means 10% is internal. That 10% makes a big difference in how you feel about your skin's looks. This article just proved to me my test results and helped me focus better on what I put in my body. Everyone is different but I for one will be eating less meat with a more organic selection. Have a Healthy Day!

Blessings,

Jennifer

What Breakouts Could be Telling you...

By: Emily Friar

Did you know that the random patch of blemishes that pops up on your face when you least expect it can actually be telling you something about your health and eating habits?

Pinpointing the common areas you seem to get these blemishes can help you rearrange your diet and lifestyle to fight them in the future.

*Do you get them between your eyes and right above your nose?  This may be a sign that your liver needs a break from it’s daily toxins.  If you are a meal on the go kind of person, try giving your prepackaged and non organic meals the boot.  Load up on foods such as cruciferous vegetables (i.e. broccoli, cabbage, kale), red grapes, garlic, onions and berries.

*Do you break out on your forehead?  Your small intestine may be trying to tell you something.  Try slowing down during meals to help yourself digest properly.

*Do you get blemishes near the sides of your nose right before the apples of your cheeks?  This may also be telling you that what you are putting in your stomach isn’t working.  Try cleaning up your diet.  What is a clean diet?  Foods free of artificial preservatives, coloring, irradiation, synthetic pesticides, fungicides, ripening agents, fumigants, drug residues and growth hormones and those that are processed, packaged, transported and stored to retain maximum nutritional value.

*Last but not least, do you get breakouts on your chin?  This may be a sign that your endorcrine system is distressed.  Try limiting your meat intake and indulge in some other protein rich, and non hormone treated, foods.  Pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, plastics, detergents, perfume, heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium), and preservatives can also disrupt your endocrine system.

I guess it’s true - you are what you eat!  What you put in your body can improve your health both inside and out.

A Quick Reminder for a Quality Skin Care Routine

   June/25/2011

Following the right steps for skin care is crucial!  Each step prepares your
skin for the next. With everything that's available and right at your
fingertips, it’s tempting to purchase an exciting new product only to
discover that you’re not quite sure where it fits into your daily regimen.

This is the official ARTISTRY™ approach to great skin– straight from the mouths of our experts!
Follow these steps daily, both morning and night!

   1.  Cleanse your face and neck with your cleanser (take eye make-up off
first with a product made for the eyes).

   2.  Tone your face and neck with a cotton pad that has been saturated with
your selected toning formula.  This step removes all remaining traces of
cleanser.  It also restores your skin to a normal and balanced pH level,
making it receptive to the next important step. Check the cotton pad to make
sure it's clean. Cheaper make-up and a long day outside could clog your
pores up more so do an extra cleanse if the cotton pad looks dirty.

   3.  Treat your skin with the products selected for your particular needs.
Target fine lines, discoloration, loss of elasticity, blemishes or uneven
skin tone in this all-important step.   Light-as-a-feather ARTISTRY products
are best absorbed by clean, balanced skin.  Apply them sparingly to face and
neck; they won't feel heavy or greasy.

   4.  Pamper the eyes.  Using the tip of your ring finger, dab eye crème
under each eye and around the outer corners.

   5.  Final step. Moisturize and protect your skin with a moisturizer
containing sun protection to halt moisture loss and damage from dry external
conditions and UV rays.  ARTISTRY moisturizers are designed to provide just
the right amount of hydration whether your skin is dry or oily.  Many
contain specially-formulated complexes which enhance the effects of ARTISTRY
products and have all been tested on sensitive skin.  However, if
sensitivities still exist, a formula without SPF is offered.

   Once or twice a week:

Indulge yourself with a relaxing facial masque.  One that is recommended for your skin type. Remove your makeup, cleanse your skin, slather on one of the technologically-advanced ARTISTRY masques and put your feet up.  You'll benefit from an extra boost of skin-enhancing
action, whether you need deep cleansing or super moisturizing.  After 20
minutes, remove the masque, cleanse once more, and proceed to tone, treat
   and moisturize.

I also recommend exfoliating once or twice a week. If your using the
Artistry Polishing Scrub you would use this in place of your cleanser.
Remember to pair the Skin Refinishing Lotion with this step. This lotion is
put on as a treatment, before eyes and mosturizer.

My question is, how many of you knew that the treatment products are
applied before your moisturiser? Most do them after...

Let me know if you have any questions or if you want me to cover a topic.
Hope your having a great summer
   Blessings,
   Jennifer

Blemish Problems???

Sorry so late with the post this week! I found out an amazing tip this past weekend at a class and I need to share it.

Having trouble with pimples or blemishes? Stop rubbing!!! Rubbing and scratching at your skin stimulates your oil glands which then will produce extra oil. Oil can get trapped in our pores which can cause blemishes. I know it goes against what we really want to do (which is to scratch that spot off) but it won't help the area to heal any faster and keeping your fidgety fingers at bay will help you to not produce extra oil in that area.

Yes, you should exfoliate and use skin care geared towards your skin type. But, every little bit helps. So stop rubbing and be gently with your skin. It'll thank you.

Many Blessings,
Jennifer

Purifying Your Skin from the Inside

Purifying your skin is difficult, but not impossible. A great and sensible skin care routine is the main ingredient to pure looking skin. This includes cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and exfoliating. Added treatments are also encouraged (example: eye creme and/or a facial mask).

If your having problems with your skin, such as acne or dullness, the first thing I would do as a skin analyst is to tell you to stick to a skin regime that meets with your skin's needs and to make sure your exfoliating more often. But, your skin has two sides. We obviously see the outside, but our skin starts on the inside and it absorbs what we put into our bodies.

If you'd like healthier skin starting from the inside then ask yourself these questions...

*Am I drinking enough water?
Water is the biggest purifier. Try drinking only water (with every meal) for 2 weeks and see what happens :)

*How much processed sugar do I take in?
Sugar plays havoc on our hormones. It feeds bacteria that could be living in our skin and hormones can control our pore size as well. Watch for this particularly around that time of the month.

*Do I eat a lot of foods with chemicals?
Organic food is so much better for our skin than processed food. The chemicals in processed food can dehydrate our skin (especially if it's not flushed out with water) and mess with our hormones. Eating fresh foods also allows our bodies to get the vitamins and minerals we need.

*Do I take a vitamin?
Our body doesn't get the adequate nutrition it needs. Supplementation is very important and helps all of our organs (skin is our largest organ) function properly. I started taking a Hair, Skin, and Nails vitamin by Nutrilite a week ago. It's an 100% organic line that I trust and it partners with Artistry. It has really helped my skin to recover (or heal) faster from any kind of irritation. An added bonus is the stronger and faster growing nails and hair :)

Any of my brides and pageant girls who followed these tips prior to a big event had healthier and clearer skin for their big day.

So, drink more water, eat a lot less sugar (this includes chocolate and ice cream), eat more organic/healthier foods, and take a vitamin for your skin. You will definitely see huge results by following these tips. In fact, I dare you to try them for 2 weeks. Please send me your testimonies :)
I would love to share them with my readers.

If you need a good vitamin don't hesitate to contact me for samples or you can visit my site: www.healthierlivingsolutions.info  I give 180 day money back guarantee on satisfaction. I believe in these products that much.

I love you all and hope you accept my challenge!!
Blessings,
Jennifer

Tanning

I was wearing shorts outside today (the first time this season) and noticed how pale my legs were. Soon, if not already, people are going to start wanting a tan. I thought I'd give some pointers on the subject.

Regular exposure to the sun or to a tanning bed adds 17 years to your skin's age. It also dry's out your skin, burns and damages your skin, and it runs a high risk of causing Melanoma or other types of skin cancer. If your looking for a summer tan I recommend self tanners (or spray on tans).

First, to create a summer time glow you want to moisturize daily and exfoliate regularly. Exfoliate by using a body scrub or a loofah to remove the dull and dead skin cells that prevent your skin from glowing. Great products like Artistry essentials Polishing Scrub or Artistry essentials Alpha Hydroxy Serum Plus work very well. Moisturize after exfoliating to keep your newly exposed skin from drying out too quickly.

Next, create and keep your tan by using a self tanner.  Choose a shade (usually in a choice of light, medium or dark) that closely matches the tan you have.  To prevent streaking, self tanners work best on freshly exfoliated and moisturized skin.

The advice when applying self tanner on your face is much the same. There are moisturizers and self tanners specifically formulated for the face. However, I never tan my face. I choose to go one shade darker in my foundation along with a bronzer to create a summer glow.

Last but not least, remember your sun screen and apply often.  Choose a moisturizing product that already contains SPF like any of the Artistry moisturizers for the face.  It’s the easiest way to keep your skin happy and healthy all summer long.

Happy tanning,
Jennifer

Finding Perfect Foundation

 April/17/2011

I found an awesome Foundation Chart I really wanted to share. I think it's
important to understand, before you look at the chart, that it would be much
easier to find the right foundation if you knew what your skin type was. For
years I thought I must have had oily skin because I was breaking out all
over the place. After I had my skin analyzed I realized just how dry my skin really was.

Now that I meet the needs of my skin it is healthier and happier. My makeup
goes on my more smoothly and the only pimples I get are from those blasted
   hormones.

If you have any questions please let me know.

I have all of these foundations available to try risk free.

Blessings to all,
Jennifer

Bad "Eye Habits"

Certain bad “eye habits” are incredibly hard to break.  I am just as guilty as the next person!
A few habits people tend to share when it comes to our eyes:
1)Scrubbing way to hard when trying to get make up off from underneath our eyes after a shower or before bed.
2) Rubbing your eyes when they itch or are tired
3) Squinting in the sun because we don't wear sunglasses
4) Smoking, drinking, unhealthy eating or lack of sleep (causes dark circles)
5) Applying under eye make up by pulling at the skin

I'm sure you struggle with atleast one of the above. It may be impossible to remember NOT to rub those tired eyes but there are a few things that you can do to keep them looking bright and fresh as well as protecting them against the signs of aging.

BE GENTLE.  Pat your eye moisturizer on with a light touch.  If it's artistry eye creme then it will absorb into your eye lids with no rubbing needed.

Apply a creamy concealer with a brush or applicator and a light hand. No rubbing, pulling, or scrubbing that eye area!

MOISTURIZE OFTEN.  The area around our eyes is a fragile as an onion layer. We also don't have oil glands around our eyes so they can get very dry. (which is one reason pulling and rubbing creates wrinkles faster in that area).  Use a cream/moisturizer specially designed for the eye area to prevent irritation.  Dab this gently onto your skin with your ring finger (your weakest finger).

COOL OFF.  Late nights, tough times, and the wrong foods can really increase eye puffiness and circles.  Try a cool wet chamomile tea bag, cucumber slices, or cotton balls soaked in milk to soothe and de-puff your overworked eyes. These are all products that are natural astringents.

SUNGLASSESS.  Put on those sunglasses!  They don’t just protect your actual eyeballs, but they protect the skin around your eyes as well from wrinkles and sun damage.  Wear them to prevent squinting and get a pair that has actual sun protection!  Style should not be the first thing you look for ;)

So remember: Pat, don’t pull. Press, don’t rub. Put on those shades and enjoy the rest of this warm season!

Blessings to you all
Jennifer

Spring Break and Miss Warner Robins

It is finally starting to warm up and I have some recommendations for products for you to tote in your beach bag during spring break fun.

Our skin can be extra sensitive since we've been cooped up for the winter. Most of us haven't been exposed to sunlight for long periods of time in a few months now. Definitely bring and use SPF!!! We usually get a brilliant glow when we have a sun burn on our face. We look kissed by the sun which can be beautiful. However, sun burns can cause long term damage that you won't see for a few years. Believe me, I see sun damage under the skin all the time when I'm analyzing women faces. You might not see the damage now, but if your burning your skin, you will see it in your future. Protect your skin to prevent sun spots, damage skin cells, discoloration, or worse. There are other ways to look sun kissed.

For Spring Break products I recommend SPF in your daily face lotion or cream. You can also supplement it with 25 or higher while outside for long periods of time.  Also use chap stick with SPF in it.

To cut down on primp time so you can have more beach time, stick your favorite lip gloss in your beach bag. Being in the sun all day will make you look radiant.  Put on a layer of shimmery lip color, put on a little mascara, and use a golden color as your eye make-up. The gold color will highlight your glowing skin. Leave all the extra products behind :)

GREAT NEWS...
Miss Warner Robins 2011, Lindsay Schafer, is now a client!!! She was and is very excited about Artistry Products and who knows, she very well could be the next Artistry Ambassador. She will be competing for Miss Georgia 2011 in June and when she wins that, she'll go on to compete for Miss America!!!! She has such beautiful skin and the products definitely worked well with her. Here's a picture of her after getting her skin analyzed and receiving a facial on Friday.

Let's Talk Mascara

03/20/11

Let's Talk Mascara

If your lashes have ever been clumpy or flaky, the highest probability for the cause is that your lashes weren't 100% clean before you put your mascara on. So, when you're taking off your make-up, make sure your lashes are clean.

I have been told by a professional that the best way to take off your mascara is to use a cotton pad (or cotton ball) and to saturate it with either warm water (for regular mascara) or make-up remover (waterproof mascara). I actually step it up a notch and use a antibacterial bar of soap to take off all my make-up. Something about killing bacteria on my skin just makes me happy. But, the cotton pad helps me to make sure my mascara is actually off because I can see if it's clean or not. Rest the pad against the lashes for several seconds and then sweep the pad down then again going sideways. Remember to be gentle around your eyes because that skin is very fragile.

Look at your lashes and decide what kind of formula you need or want to use. Do you need length, volume, or do they need to be curled so you can see them?

Decide what formula you need to use and don't be afraid to use different formulas at the same time. You don't have to choose between longer, thicker, waterproof or not.

Curl your lashes BEFORE putting on mascara!! Or else you'll loose some lashes.

Once you've chosen your formulas, place the brush of the mascara wand close to the line of your lashes and wiggle the brush back and forth then pull towards the tips. This helps to separate the lashes and to get complete coverage. Don't be afraid to REPEAT this step until you get the effect you want. (using different formulas if needed). Finish one eye completely before you go onto the next. If mascara dries between coats you'll get clumping.

If people are mixing formulas it's good to start with lengthening, add volume, then finish with a single coat of waterproof.

If your trying to line your eyes and not just lengthening your lashes, then use the darkest black you can find.

Also, a little blue mascara applied to the tips of the lashes will help the whites of your eyes to look whiter and will give your eyes a sparkle.

Hope you can use some of these tips.

Blessings,
Jennifer

Our Face is Bigger than We Think :)

Hello ladies!!!

I'm going to keep this short and sweet with a few awesome tips.

When you are washing your face don't forget your neck and décolleté!! Décolleté is a French word that is talking about a low-cut neckline. Basically, what you would show off if you were to wear a tank or strapless top. I have heard from so many professionals that it is important to treat these areas the exact same way you would treat your face, especially when it comes to moisturizing. So, don't hesitate to cleanse, tone, and moisturize those areas with the same products you use on your face. It will help to prevent aging. If your using quality products to keep your facial skin looking young and healthy then I wouldn't want you to feel grief if in a few short years you start to see a saggy neck with a not so saggy face :) We want that whole area to be young and beautiful so aim for optimal results. This could result in needing to purchase a re-fill on products a couple days earlier than your usual, but quality skin care products are investments in fantastic skin so don't waste your money!!

Also, when washing and moisturizing your neck, use upward motions instead of pulling down. It feels awkward at first but it will help your skin in fighting gravity. Pulling on our skin only aids the breaking down of collagen and elastin in our skin (which is what creates wrinkles).

Last tip. When you are applying all these products to your face, rub the extra moisturizer on the back of your hands. We show age on our hands too. They are constantly in the sun (like when they're on a steering wheel when we are driving) and will show lots of sunspots and wrinkles as we age. Hand moisturizer with SPF is great for preventing this as well.

Let me know any tips you've gotten in the past. I would love to hear them.

Have a great week,
Many Blessings

White Eye Shadow. Do You Dare?

03/06/11
I am often asked to do eye makeup for ladies (especially for special occasions). I thought I'd share a few tips on white eye shadow.  It's a shade that most women don't think about but looks really classy and strikingly beautiful if used correctly. White eye shadow is a staple in my makeup bag!!!

*White shadow is a great base color for your eye lid. If you apply it from your lash line up to your brow it will soften the appearance of the color shadow you will put on top. This can create a wonderful blending base and a smooth application for your eye color. Make sure this is with a matte color and not an iridescent one.

* You could also use a white shadow on top of an iridescent shadow (any color) to decrease the shine to a soft hue (This is great for a daytime look).

*Use just on the brow bone (under the eye brow) when doing a smoky eye look. Great for the night life.

*If you sometimes use a pink eye shadow but it makes your eyes look red and tired, you can replace it with white eye shadow to get the same effect with better results.

*A white shadow over dark eyelids give the same lightening effect as a concealer.

*You can also apply white shadow under the brow arch on the brow bone (the crease of your eyelid) to make your eyes look open and bright.

*After you've applied your shadow color, add a small amount of the white eye shadow to the center of your lower lid to brighten your eyes. Apply this with your finger for a thicker look (a brush can take off some of the color you've already applied to the lid).

*You can apply white shadow to your LOWER lash line to create a wet eye look.  This can be applied with your finger or an angle brush.

My Favorite tip!!
*Use a small amount of Iridescent white shadow on the inner corner of your eyes. This really brightens the eyes and draws attention to them. I do this for all my special occasions.

Try any of the tips or any combination of these tips. Please share with me if you have any suggestions for white eye shadow :) I personally use a few of these daily. However, different techniques look better with different eyes shapes. You won't know what works best unless you try it out.

A few different looks.....

Blessings to all,
Jennifer

Keeping Your Skin Looking Pure

02/27/11

I just spent a fabulous weekend with a bunch of youth for a retreat. The theme of the weekend was purity (keeping your mind, heart, and body pure). This is something incredibly difficult, but not impossible in today's culture. I thought I would continue with the theme since purity is also important for skin.

The best ways to keep your skin looking pure???

*When you exfoliate your buffing the impurities (dead skin, bacteria, dirt, and oil) off the surface of your skin. Exfoliation is a huge key to helping the surface of your skin looking pure. However, there is such a thing as exfoliating to much. Give your skin a couple of days to rejuvenate itself between "treatments". Skin does protect itself and it could react poorly if to many layers are buffed off.

You also want to make sure that you're exfoliating with something that's not to harsh. Most scrubs actually have jagged particles in them that tear at your skin. Wash rags and battery operated "buffers" can also be to harsh. They can cause long-term damage and accelerate the aging process. If you're wondering about a particular product and if it works effectively and/or efficiently, then don't hesitate to ask.

*Cleaning with products that meet pharmaceutical standards is also a way to keep bacteria and other impurities away from your skin. Remember, 95% of skincare lines on the market DO NOT meet pharmaceutical standards. That means that they have at least 5% of bacteria in them (but could have up to 30%) and still be sold in stores. In other words, your actually cleaning with impurities if your using one of those products.

*The BEST way to stay pure is to watch what you're putting into your body. WATER is the best resource for flushing out your system and keeping your hormones as balanced as possible. Hormones have a play in your pore size and in your skin's natural exfoliation process. Sugar and chemicals affect your hormones and drinking lot's of water helps to flush that stuff out. Ever notice that people who eat only organic food and drink nothing but water have amazing skin? Yeah, there's a reason for it.

The best exfoliator for instant results and long-term protection that I've found is the ARTISTRY® essentials Polishing Scrub. Yes, it's something I market but I market it because I believe in it. This is a product not sold in stores. It's particles are circular beads that buff instead of tear at your skin. It's the main reason for my clear complexion (I can't stay away from the sweets). The ARTISTRY® MicroExfoliation Cloth is a re-usable, very powerful, and gentle cloth that aids and accentuates the capabilities of the scrub. Both are affordable and long lasting products.

Hoping to help keep your skin pure,
-Jennifer

Why Wear a Bronzer?

02/20/11

I have always been very curious about bronzers because I personally have never worn any. So, I did my research. I found out some great stuff. I didn't know that you needed a particular brush. I also didn't know that bronzers came in gels and cremes. I wrote this post from my findings.

Bronzers come in many different shades and mediums. How do you know which one to choose?

I now know that a bronzer is NOT a substitute for foundation. It's not made to replace blush and it is not suppose to make drastic differences in your skin tone.

Bronzer is meant to give your skin a sun-kissed glow, to make a smooth transition from your face to your throat, and to help you in transitioning from your winter foundation shade to your summer foundation shade (in the spring months).

Hopefully!!!! everyone reading this is paying much more attention to using sunscreen on their faces. The only con to having protection for your face is that it's skin is often lighter then your neck. This is when a bronzer is needed. Blending the bronzer along the jaw line can make the transition from your face to your neck smoother and more natural looking.

Powder Bronzers are the most popular and easiest to use. The application is the same for a pressed or loose formula.

You need a bronzer brush. They are different from a blush brush and are designed to give a soft wash of color. It helps the bronzer to blend into your skin smoothly and evenly. Blush brushes are more compact. They are designed to leave a more concentrated application of color.

How to choose a color:
Choose a color that is one shade darker than your skin when you have foundation on. If you understand skin undertones, then take that into consideration when choosing a color. For example: does your skin have a lot of warm colors in it? If it does, then you wouldn't want to choose a bronzer with the color plum in it because it can make you look bruised. If you naturally have a lot of cool colors, then you wouldn't want to use a bronzer with warm colors because it'll make you look orange. If you are fair or have porcelain shades, then I wouldn't pick an actual bronzer for you. Consider a face powder that is warmer and a shade darker then your skin tone if you want a sun-kissed look.

How to apply :
Look at your face in the mirror and imagine where it would be touched by the sun if it was directly over you. Usually, this is the forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin

Application

*Load your brush with bronzer and tap off any excess on a hard surface.
*Gently brush bronzer on those areas you feel the sun would touch.

*Remember the transition area from your chin to your throat, blend product from the chin to the throat so all is blended well and looks natural.

*Don’t forget your blush!  Apply the blush to the apple of your cheeks to finish that natural glowing look you want to achieve.

Cream Bronzers are good for people with very dry skin. These can be applied with your fingers or a brush designed for applying liquid foundations (brushes produce a more natural look).

Gels Bronzers are difficult to apply and are best for people with oily skin. If you are a slow worker I don't recommend gels because they dry very quickly. Apply a section at a time, blending well with a foundation brush.

Stick Bronzers are similar to the gel formulas but would be for dry skin types and should be applied with your fingers or a foundation brush.

Bronzers with shimmer are applied the same way as any above (they usually are in powder form), but they can be used on shoulders, legs, and decolletage to give that added sun-kissed look.

I'm looking forward to trying out what I've learned.
Blessings,
Jennifer

Looking Special for a Special Someone.

Want to look extra special for a special day? Here's a few tips:

-Give your skin a polish by exfoliating that morning or when your getting ready for a date.

-A moisture mask will give you a radiant glow all over.

-Exfoliate those lips. You can do this with a toothbrush or lip care kit. Moisturize and top with your favorite lip gloss.

-Before you go out for the night, cleanse, tone, and moisturize your face.  Give yourself a clean canvas for your make-up.

-Go for dramatic eyes. Eye liner on the top lid with a smoky eye shadow will help your eyes to pop. Contrasting colors work great here too. If you have dark brown eyes, consider a dark blue liner. Light brown eyes, a dark green liner. Blue eyes, a dark brown liner. Green eyes, a dark purple or brown liner. A lot of ladies wear black liners. I think colored liners are softer around the eye.  Although, I love me some black mascara.

-Consider the outfit your wearing when choosing make-up colors. Not to match, but to complement. In other words, if I were wearing black or neutral colors I would choose brighter colors in my makeup. If your wearing a lot of colors in your outfit, choose basic and neutral colors in your make-up.

-Filling in your eyebrows also helps to frame the eye (You've got to have the right color for this. A shade lighter than your brow color will work).

-Fix your hair the way he has told you he likes it. If it's a first date then wear it so that you feel confident.

-Wear a shirt or dress that is cut away from your face. Put perfume below your ears, on your chest, and on your wrists.

Whatever you do make sure you feel beautiful, comfortable, and confident. Confidence attracts people and is your best asset.

Love and Blessings,
Jennifer

3 Tips for Great Lips

02/06/11

1. Exfoliate. People forget that your lips are skin too!! Exfoliation is great for your lips. However, look for an exfoliation product that is specifically made for lips. After you get all that dead and dry skin off then seal with a lip conditioner. A very very soft toothbrush can also be used to exfoliate lips.

2. Moisturize. A great tip I've recently come across is to use a tea bag.  Dunk a tea bag (I recommend chamomile) into a cup of warm water. Then press the tea bag against your lips for one to two minutes. The natural herbs really help to soften and add moisture to your lips. Pat your lips dry then seal in the moisture with a moisturizing lip balm or lip conditioner.

3. Protection. Biting lips, licking lips, smoking, and excessive (unprotected) sun exposure can wreak havoc on lips. In fact, licking your lips when they are already chapped just makes the problem worse.  Avoid hurting your lips with those bad habits and wear SOMETHING on them. There are also lip sticks and lip balms with SPF in it for much needed protection.

A product that I use and love from Artistry is an actual Lip Care Kit. It's a two-piece kit with a polish and a conditioner. The polish buffs the dead and dry skin for instant results. The Lip Conditioner seals, softens, and soothes with the benefit of antioxidants and vitamins A and E.  A great product, especially for the winter or when you just want more kissable lips ;)

Remember to use products that meet pharmaceutical standards. Especially when choosing products that buff your skin. Anything else could cause inflammation or infection (and tends to tear at skin). Artistry is among the 5% of skin care lines that meets pharmaceutical standards.

 Wishing you blessings!
Jennifer Gotrich

How to Know if Bacteria is in Your Products

01/30/11

Where there is bacteria there is usually free radicals as well. Both bacteria and free radicals are not something you want to clean your face or put make-up on with. However, most people do.

In order to know if your products contain bacteria you must know if they meet pharmaceutical standards or not.

95% of skin care lines DO NOT meet pharmaceutical standards. That means they have between 5 and 30% of bacteria in them. Companies can not market them in stores if they have more than 30%. That is disgusting!!! Just to wash our face in 5% of bacteria is nasty! Bacteria is the number one cause of acne. The free radicals that must come with such pour production processes are not good for someone's skin long term.

When I was in college I struggled with acne and used many different products to help me. Little did I know I was "cleaning" my skin with bacteria that was probably a major source of my problem in the first place. Free radicals can also increase the aging process. Of course, this is something that skin care lines wont share with you.

Curious to know which skin care lines meet these precious standards? I'm going to have to let you do your own research on that. But, I can tell you if you purchased your products in a convenience store of any kind then your chances of them not meeting these standards have greatly increased. Since Pharmaceutical standards pertains to the quality upheld while testing, batching, and shipping products I can share with you that companies that don't meet them choose not to for cost reasons. In other words, the cheaper the product the greater your risk.

I consider skin care an investment in myself. Looking for instant satisfaction is just as important as long term prevention in my book.

I can share with you that Artistry is the 2nd top leading brand in the world and among the 5% that DOES meet pharmaceutical standards. In fact, we have less than .01% bacteria in our skin care line and our make-up line. Just something I like to brag about.

I hope this has helped you in understanding what quality products can help you achieve.
I wish you many blessings and a happy face:)

Choosing the Right Eye Creme for You

 01/23/11

There is a link to a video featuring our 2011 Miss America preliminaries at the bottom of this entree! It's pretty awesome.

Choosing an eye creme can be really tricky. Eye cremes from different brands have different ingredients. You have your own concerns about your eyes, whatever they may be, and you want to pick a creme that will treat that skin accordingly.

I always say when I'm analyzing a new person's skin that the skin around your eyes is as fragile as an onion layer. It's actually one of the only areas on our body that doesn't have oil glands. Because of that, the constant pulling, dabbing, tugging, and rubbing we do around our eyes wears at the collagen and elastin in the skin. This is why women tend to show the first signs of aging around their eyes.

Dark circles happen for different reasons. Dehydration is a big one (drink lots of water to help with this). It can also be because the blood circulation isn't flowing so well. Lack of sleep is another reason. Dark circles can happen to anyone as young as 14. If you are a young lady and are showing dark circles, I would recommend an eye cream because ignoring your circles and just leaving your eyes dry can cause wrinkles in women as young as 23-25. Eye creme treats skin, but it is also a wonderful preventive of fine lines and wrinkles. I myself started wearing eye creme at the age of 23 but wish I had started at at least 16. My skin type is dry and the fine lines have regrettable started to show their ugly face. I personally know this would be different if I had started proper skin care and eye cream at a younger age.

I found a list on an Artistry Blog that matches ingredients to treatments and thought I would share them with you for you 411. These are ingredients that other brands might use, but Artistry has found to work well. They also are extracted from nature (since Artistry is an organic line). If your main concern is to...

-Reduce puffiness – then use ingredients such as Caffeine, Green tea, Eyeseryl
-Treat Dryness – Hyaluronic Acid, Cermides and Glycerin treat dryness
-Wrinkles and loss of firmness – Peptides, Vitamin C and E, Retinol (be careful with this ingredient if you are sensitive in this area) and Alpha Hydroxy Acids
-Dark circles – Licorice root extract, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Marine Botanicals, Caffeine, Green tea, White Birch extract

Don’t think you have to choose a different eye creme to treat each issue because many ingredients will treat more than one concern.

I hope you have found this helpful in choosing an eye cream. I personally believe every women should put creme on there eyes at least once a day.

Remember to dab you eye creme around your eye on that occipital bone. Your eyes don't need any extra wear and tear :) If it's an Artistry product then your skin will absorb it right into your eye lids. No rubbing is necessary :)

Artistry has 2 amazing eye cremes that I have found to work wonders on myself and on clients.

Beautiful from the Inside Out

Hi Ladies!!
If you are receiving this message it's because you and I have somehow in someway gotten together in the past to talk about your skin. In an effort to better serve my family, friends, and beloved clients, I have decided to post a blog once a week and send it to you for your reading pleasure.

I have learned a lot in the past 2 1/2 years. Being affiliated with Artistry skin care and cosmetics and becoming a certified skin analysis has really helped me with my own personal skin care needs. The information that I will be sending you will be from my training and from information that I receive and find valuable for others to know. It could be anything from Make-up tips, battling acne, skin health, to dry lips. Please feel free to respond to the email if ever you need to get in touch with me. I hope you find this blog helpful. The following is my very first Beauty Blog sent to you from me :) Enjoy!!

Beautiful from the Inside Out
01/16/11

Every person is vulnerable! All that stands between the environment and our internal organs is our precious skin. Skin is our largest organ and it is absolutely fascinating! It is so important and necessary to protect our skin daily by wearing the proper clothing and also by applying the appropriate lotions and serums to maintain it's health and beauty.

Beautiful skin is obtainable when healthy skin is at the starting point. Did you know that the top layer of the skin (what skin products are actually treating) is only about 10% of the actual thickness of your skin (the epidermis)? It's the deeper Dermis ,or live skin, that you find blood vessels, nerve endings, collagen and elastin in. It's what gives the top layer it's appearance and structure. It's constantly attacked by free radicals in the foods we eat, our stress levels, and what our skin absorbs.

Healthy skin requires treatment from the inside as well as the outside with anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatory and hydrating ingredients.

To get the protection our skin needs from free radicals, look for products with a wide variety of anti-oxidants (examples: vitamins A,B,E and grape seed extract). To control inflammation that can cause redness, look for anti-inflammatory ingredients such as zinc, aloe, and chamomile. If you are looking or moisture retention and the improvement of fine lines then you would want ingredients with fatty acids and amino acids such as L-Cysteine and Glycine.

The ingredients listed above can be found in topical skin care products as well as in nutritional supplements offered through Artistry and Nutrilite.

I hope you have a little bit more of an understanding of skin's needs. Skin is very complex and my hope is that through education women everywhere can achieve healthier skin.
