5 Skin Tips for Fall

Fall is wonderful!! Cool air, the colors, warming fires, and comfort food.

However, that cool air can be damaging to skin. Cracked lips, itchy skin, and that overall dry feeling are sometimes uncomfortable components of cooler weather. I have some suggestions for maintaining that glowing supple skin we all long for year round!

Just adding moisturizer to dry dehydrated skin soothes the skin, but it doesn't heal it. Notice that the dry feeling comes back? The goal should be to keep the moisture inside the skin.

A couple of suggestions:
1. Avoid scolding hot water when cleansing the skin.
The hot water minimizes moisture in the skin. Lukewarm temperature is healthier.

2. Moisturize after washing your hands and bathing.
It takes extra time to do this, but applying moisturizer to slightly damp skin locks the water inside creating a moisture barrier. It also helps the moisturizer to penetrate deeper because your pores are open.

3.Exfoliate
Moisturizer is much more effective on freshly exfoliated skin. Removing a dead skin layer insures better absorption from your hydrating products. Don't over exfoliate -the hot water will dry you out even more. Scrubbing down a few times a week, allowing time for skin to regrow, will be enough (depending on skin type).

4.Skip the harsh soaps
Use a cleanser with a creamy consistency and moisturizing ingredients. I have a few in mind if you need examples ;)

5. Drink lots of water.
Being hydrated from the inside out always helps the skin maintain moisture longer.

Remember that lotions don't often absorb as well as moisturizers, so pay attention to what you're using as well.

Hope this helps. My skin type is dry, so I personally live by these suggestions.
Have a Healthy Day!!
Jennifer
