I just spent a fabulous weekend with a bunch of youth for a retreat. The theme of the weekend was purity (keeping your mind, heart, and body pure). This is something incredibly difficult, but not impossible in today's culture. I thought I would continue with the theme since purity is also important for skin.
The best ways to keep your skin looking pure???
*When you exfoliate your buffing the impurities (dead skin, bacteria, dirt, and oil) off the surface of your skin. Exfoliation is a huge key to helping the surface of your skin looking pure. However, there is such a thing as exfoliating to much. Give your skin a couple of days to rejuvenate itself between "treatments". Skin does protect itself and it could react poorly if to many layers are buffed off.
You also want to make sure that you're exfoliating with something that's not to harsh. Most scrubs actually have jagged particles in them that tear at your skin. Wash rags and battery operated "buffers" can also be to harsh. They can cause long-term damage and accelerate the aging process. If you're wondering about a particular product and if it works effectively and/or efficiently, then don't hesitate to ask.
*Cleaning with products that meet pharmaceutical standards is also a way to keep bacteria and other impurities away from your skin. Remember, 95% of skincare lines on the market DO NOT meet pharmaceutical standards. That means that they have at least 5% of bacteria in them (but could have up to 30%) and still be sold in stores. In other words, your actually cleaning with impurities if your using one of those products.
*The BEST way to stay pure is to watch what you're putting into your body. WATER is the best resource for flushing out your system and keeping your hormones as balanced as possible. Hormones have a play in your pore size and in your skin's natural exfoliation process. Sugar and chemicals affect your hormones and drinking lot's of water helps to flush that stuff out. Ever notice that people who eat only organic food and drink nothing but water have amazing skin? Yeah, there's a reason for it.
The best exfoliator for instant results and long-term protection that I've found is the ARTISTRY® essentials Polishing Scrub. Yes, it's something I market but I market it because I believe in it. This is a product not sold in stores. It's particles are circular beads that buff instead of tear at your skin. It's the main reason for my clear complexion (I can't stay away from the sweets). The ARTISTRY® MicroExfoliation Cloth is a re-usable, very powerful, and gentle cloth that aids and accentuates the capabilities of the scrub. Both are affordable and long lasting products.
Hoping to help keep your skin pure,
-Jennifer

3 Tips for Great Lips
02/06/11
1. Exfoliate. People forget that your lips are skin too!! Exfoliation is great for your lips. However, look for an exfoliation product that is specifically made for lips. After you get all that dead and dry skin off then seal with a lip conditioner. A very very soft toothbrush can also be used to exfoliate lips.
2. Moisturize. A great tip I've recently come across is to use a tea bag. Dunk a tea bag (I recommend chamomile) into a cup of warm water. Then press the tea bag against your lips for one to two minutes. The natural herbs really help to soften and add moisture to your lips. Pat your lips dry then seal in the moisture with a moisturizing lip balm or lip conditioner.
3. Protection. Biting lips, licking lips, smoking, and excessive (unprotected) sun exposure can wreak havoc on lips. In fact, licking your lips when they are already chapped just makes the problem worse. Avoid hurting your lips with those bad habits and wear SOMETHING on them. There are also lip sticks and lip balms with SPF in it for much needed protection.
A product that I use and love from Artistry is an actual Lip Care Kit. It's a two-piece kit with a polish and a conditioner. The polish buffs the dead and dry skin for instant results. The Lip Conditioner seals, softens, and soothes with the benefit of antioxidants and vitamins A and E. A great product, especially for the winter or when you just want more kissable lips ;)
Remember to use products that meet pharmaceutical standards. Especially when choosing products that buff your skin. Anything else could cause inflammation or infection (and tends to tear at skin). Artistry is among the 5% of skin care lines that meets pharmaceutical standards.
Wishing you blessings!
